Bruce Arsenault: District IV Representative

Bruce Arsenault:
District IV Representative

When I was 16 years old, like most kids, I had a transportation problem to and from my after school job. I learned that I could drive myself on a motorcycle after taking a written test for a learners permit. I bought an old 125cc Moto Guzzi, took the test and had my first primary means of transportation.Within a year I had my first car and the bike became a recreational thing. I rode for the fun of it.

By the time that I was 19, I owned a 1957 Pan Head chopper. The good ol' days, how I wish that I had that one back! That Harley had me hooked for life. Some years back my riding friend "Irv the Perv" asked me to attend an MMA meeting with him in Westfield. I wasn't too sure what it was all about, but I went along after he offered to buy the first beer. I became a member eventually, but I didn't have much time to be very active. After helping out at some events, I was able to meet other members with the same interests and concerns as me.

I came to the realization that there are people who are not passionate about riding motorcycles that are making decisions (laws) for those of us who are. I saw small groups of riders, well organized politically, that could make a difference. I became more involved.

As District IV Representative of the MMA for the last three years, I have had the privilege of meeting people from across the state and beyond. Most of them have become good friends. I have been to the State House with other Board Members to meet Governor Romney for the signing of Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Month Proclamation. I have attended dinners to support Legislators and other State Motorcyclists’ Rights Organizations.

I would like to see the MMA membership grow and to see more members become active. In New England it is rare to see a motorcycle as a person’s primary means of transportation. Most of us just ride for the fun of it. Even so, recreational riders need to have a watchdog group of motorcyclists’ rights activists ensuring and enhancing their favored activity.

Riding.

If you know someone who rides in Massachusetts, why not ask them to become an informed member of the MMA? Like Irv did with me, just ask a friend to attend a meeting.

contact me.
